SAN ANTONIO, TX – ACT 4 SA has launched the next update to its public dashboard highlighting suspensions of local law enforcement agencies in Bexar County. This latest update highlights San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) suspensions from 2010-2023 and Bexar County Sheriff Office (BCSO) data from 2019-2023. Users can search this dashboard by officer name, incident type, disciplinary outcomes, and even read short summaries of every offense that suspended officers have committed in this timeline. Enter the url www.copthedata.com to visit the dashboard. This is the first public facing dashboard of its type for Bexar County and across Texas.
It should be noted that due to increased difficulty in receiving suspension and arbitration documents for BCSO deputies that there is an unknown category of suspensions where we are still awaiting details to add as we receive them. A lack of transparency surrounding BCSO suspensions, arbitrations, and their policies and procedures manual will continue to be a focus of advocacy moving forward.
“It is our full intent to keep adding law enforcement agencies from across Texas to turn this into a statewide dashboard for public use,” said Ananda Tomas, Executive Director of ACT 4 SA. “Already we are hearing from lawyers, community members, activists, and even media outlets how helpful the first version of this dashboard has been for them as they research officer misconduct and disciplinary records in San Antonio. We are so excited to be able to expand this.”
Updated tutorials on navigating the updated dashboard will follow in the coming weeks. ACT 4 SA continues to encourage the legislators in Bexar County and across the state to use this dashboard to help highlight disciplinary loopholes in current police contracts that allow for the rehiring of fired officers. The dashboard can be found at www.copthedata.com.
